Electro braid fence Electro braid fence is made of light, strong, braided rope used to contain animals and keep unwanted animals out. The outer braid contains strong high tensile non conductive material made of high grade polyester fiber, the same material used in seatbelts and parachute harnesses. Surrounding an inner core also made of super strength high tensile non-conductive material. The conductive material embedded in the outer braid provides an adequate shock to a trespassing animal. An electro braid fence acts like a boxing ring, where it absorbs the force and then springs back and returns to its original state. Electro Braid is an easy and fast permanent method of fencing being a fraction of the cost of other fencing materials. It is a safe and effective way to provide a permanent or temporary fence. It can also be used to graze cattle requiring it to be moved often. 40,000 horses are fenced behind electro braid. Equine specialists claim that electro braid it one of the safest and best wire to use in fencing. Horses do not try to break through or jump electro braid. It is stress free because they are herd animals and they want to see other horses. There is also no barbs, splinters or other pointy objects that could penetrate and animal. When building a fence either to keep animals in or to keep predators out a post to hang the wire on should not be placed over fifty feet. If you plan to do any amount of fencing it is a good idea to invest in a reel of some sort to quickly dispense and re-roll electro braid to create a professional electro braid fence.
How to build wire fence Barbed wire is the easiest and most economical. It does not require any electricity or special equipment. You start by pounding metal or wood fence posts usually every 8 feet. On each end of the fence you pound 2 posts 3 feet apart and later nail a post on a diagonal starting at the top of the end post and fastening to the bottom of the second last post. It then stops the last post from bending when the wire is tightened. Then roll out the wire usually 3 or 4 strands depending on what will be inside the fence. Tighten the wire and staple it evenly spaced to the posts. How to build wire fence? Electrical wire is the fastest fence to build although requires an electric fencer to create electric shock. Generally insulated posts are used that way the wire does not have a path to ground. Te posts are pushed in and one or two wires are rolled out and clipped in the slots in the posts. Tightened and hooked to an electrical source creates a quick means of containing animals. Chain link fences are more difficult to build. First you pound or drill the metal posts in the ground all to the same height. Then roll out the wire and tie wire it to the posts. Caps are put on the posts as well as brackets to hold a top rail which is attached to the top of the wire. All three methods of fencing can easily be done, once you decide which type best suits your situation and a little bit of figuring you will have no trouble how to build wire fence.
Bekaert wire Bekaert wire is made out of the same type of high tensile steel as Gaucho, Motto, and Cattleman. If fact all of bekaert high tensile wires are made of the same core material providing the special ZA coating. ZA barbed is coated with Zinc + Aluminum (ZA) to maximize the life of the fence.
Fencing 101 Barbed wire fencing is the most common fencing technique used globally to contain cattle, horses, and other farm animals. It is cheap, long lasting, and easy to use. It also does not require and electricity to keep animals in because of the unique barbs designed to poke and scratch the animal if it tries to cross. Barbed wire is uses to contain horses but it must be kept in good condition. If the fence falls to the ground horses can easily get caught and tangled in the wire causing major cuts or injuries. I decided to write this article on fencing 101 when I remembered the time on our farm a ranch hand was riding through the bush and the horse got caught in a mess of wire on the ground he immediately got scared and went crazy causing significant injury to both himself and the rider. A smooth wire electric fence only requires one or two wires where there should be three to five strands of barbed wire to make the same quality of fences. Smooth wire is my preferred method to contain horses because it is the safest. In turn it does require more maintenance to make sure the electrical fence unit is working and the fence is not grounded anywhere but the unit itself. Another advantage of smooth electrical wire is that is can be quickly and effectively moved with the right wire roller whenever it is necessary to relocate for pasture or other reasons. The only tools needed to make a barbed wire fence are a hammer to drive staples, a wire tightener to ensure the wire is tight, a pair of fencing pliers to cut and bend the wire, and a wire dispensing unit to unroll the wire through out the fence. With this hand full of tools you can go and make a good useful fence as described in fencing 101
Horse Fencing Safety can easily be achieved by choosing the right material. People often think it is cruel to lock your horse behind an electric fence. In fact that is one of the safest means of fencing because an electric fencer does not give out a harmful shock people can easily handle the same shock and a horse out weighs us by 800 pounds. Imagine the shock being 80% less, you would hardly feel it. It is just enough to make them aware and teach them to stay away. Electric Horses fencing can be made of 2-5 strands of polytape, electro braid, or high tensile fencing wire 2 strands is enough for a horse but many people decide if they are building an electric fence they might as well add a few wires and prevent predators such as coyotes or wolves from bothering their animals. The only precaution with any type of wire is the possibility of tangling around the horse’s feet and becoming dangerous. Routine checks of the fence should be made ensuring that the fence remains tight preventing any possibility of your horse walking on it. The second proffered method of horse containment is a three or four plank or rail fence. These fences require minimal repairs and are the most decorative giving your yard a true ranch style, but cost the most to build. Nails or limbs sticking out can be dangerous. There are many different types of fences built for horses but the two I just discussed are the most popular and most importantly create the safest environment for your horse.
Swath grazing Swath grazing can reduce operating costs not requiring as much manual labor meaning you don’t have to make, haul, and cover feed, start a tractor, and go out to feed your animals everyday. You don’t have to clean corrals and spread manure if they are swath grazing. They automatically evenly spread the manure over the land increasing the quality and fertility of the soil. Managing swath grazing makes an electric fencer very important. Animals will eat the best quality portion of the crop first. They will eat the heads off the crop leaving the straw. This is where the fencer comes in, the crop should be fenced into small portions and they will eat the heads and the straw stems then they can be moved to the next, if they are let into a field unfenced they will eat all of the quality first and trample the rest. Properly fenced they will stay in great shape. The crop should generally be cut between august and September when the quality is the best. Water is not required if there is a decent amount of loose snow. Your animals should be watched closely to make sure none of your animals are getting thin. Older animals tend to eat the better quality where young cattle often are more timid and eat the straw components of the straw potentially affecting their weight. Also watch for ice and crusting snow which will make it more difficult to get water. Wind breaks are a good idea if there is not a large amount of bush to settle in during a cold windy night. With proper management you can make your business run more efficient with the use of swath grazing.
Sheep Electric Fencing Sheep electric fencing is crucial to keep both sheep in and predators out. Fencing is one of the largest costs to having sheep. You will need to fence both the perimeter and the interior. Perimeter fence is placed on the outside of the grazing area. It should be built to last as it is the first defence against predators and will not be moved. It should consist of multi-strand, high-tensile, with electric offset wires and barbed wires at the top and bottom of the fence. It is a good idea to use 5 strands of high-tensile electrical wire for the most effective sheep fencing. Generally spaced closer together at the bottom to keep predators out. Predators prefer to crawl under or through rather than jump over. The most common spacing is 6, 5, 5, 8, 10 inch intervals. 80% of all electric fences in the United States are not correctly grounded. Three ground rods should be pounded at each energizer to effectively connect the circuit to shock the animal. A 4000 volt energizer is recommended for sheep electric fencing. 1 joule of power will power a single strand for 6 miles so if you are electrifying 5 strands of wire 1 joule will be good for just over a mile of fence. Your fence will require an amount of upkeep to ensure the wire stays tight, and to check that plants and vegetation has not grown up to the bottom wire causing short circuit and loss of shock It will not take long and your fence will act as a psychological barrier and your sheep will learn to stay away from it. After your first fence you will have the art of sheep electric fencing.
How To Build Electric Fence How to build electric fence requires the use of and electric fencer to generate and send electric shock down the line. It is sometimes the only resort to teach a bad fence crawling animal to respect a fence. The main thing to remember is the wire must not have a path to ground. If the wire does connect to the ground the electricity will then enter the ground and not continue down the line. Most of the time it is only necessary to have one “hot” wire on a fence animals will learn very quickly and avoid the fence. How to build electric fence is basic, you start by choosing the right post; wood posts can be used but are harder to keep the wire insulated. You can buy special posts that you can push in with your foot that have an insulated ring that the wire in held in. Once the posts placed, simply string out the wire and attach to the posts. Use a wire tightener at the end to keep tension on the line. Drive a ground rod beside your electric fencer, one wire from the fencer goes to the ground rod and the other goes to the wire on the fence. Most fencers allow you to either plug 110 current(regular household plug-in) or have 12volt attachment. If you are in reach of electricity run a cord to plug in the fencer. If you are not near power you can use a 12 volt car battery and use solar power or other means to recharge the battery. Electric fencing is economical and fast to build, by this you should know how to build electric fence.
Electric fencing goats Electric fencing goats are similar to electric fencing sheep because they are the same size and have similar habits. Predators are also a major risk require an amount of electricity. Some common materials are reviewed to find the best means on containment. Woven wire is also known as traditional page wire. It is the most visible and is the most stretch resistant and long lasting. It has squares anywhere from and inch and a half to twelve inches; it is generally four feet high with smaller squares at the bottom steadily increasing to larger squares at the top acting to keep predators out. It is best to accompany the woven wire with a single strand of barbed wire or high tensile electrical wire two thirds of the animal’s height. to prevent the animal from sticking their head through and a stand at 7 inches above ground to prevent predators for intruding. When electric fencing goats barbed is not recommended due to the poor conductivity to carry electrical charge and they are dangerous having sharp barbs that can cut and catch wool. When and existing barbed wire fence is present you can make use of it by adding wires until you have 6-10 wires spaced close to one another. Rail fencing is only recommended for corrals of small area, however if you have a rail or board fence you can add a few electrical wires to achieve a sheep or goat fence The two most common types of fence posts are wood or metal. If wood they must be treated to withstand the elements and prevent rotting. Metal posts are fire retardant, lighter, easier to drive, and more compact. Wire is either galvanized steel, aluminum, or aluminum clad steel most commonly 12.5 gauge. Aluminum clad steel is the best but most expensive because you get the long lasting ability of aluminum but the strength of steel. The most inexpensive wire is poly tape or poly braid which eventually breaks down in the sun but is still used for temporary electric fencing goats.
